The Book of Seasons

The trees are forced to watch
As their leaves begin to age
For the chapter on Summer is over
As Autumn turns the page

The trees must say goodbye
To the shadows upon the ground
Their shadows now seem different
For the shade cannot be found

As Autumn turns the final page
The leaves begin to fall
For Autumn's chapter is much too short
As Winter comes to call

But when Winter's frigid fingers
Finally turn the page
The season of colors is over
For Autumn has left the stage

But once again as time goes by
Only God knows all the reasons
Spring returns to bring the leaves
As it opens the Book of Seasons
