Notes About The Poem
Written July 4th

The Blessing Of The Soup

Life can send one in to turmoil
As if in the blink of an eye
Throwing one into confused clarity.
Though numb, hearts bleed and cry.

So to distract oneself from woe
To avoid pits of despair,
There's a place where I love to go...
Poetry Soup is there!

It gives one space to think and breathe
To recieve something uplifting.
We gain so much from being here
We too get the joy of gifting!

We never know from poem to poem
How much our works impact.
Then someone reaches out and says,
"You made a difference. Thanks for that!"

That feeling of togetherness
Is an anchor to the soul.
Somehow sharing in this global Soup
Shrinks an empty hole.

On here we find meaning and make friends
And over this past year,
Poetry has been my therapy.
It's a blessing you are here!

Hello Natasha L. Scragg, A wonderful tribute to Poetry Soup. I was going through a rough time after my husbands died. All I did was picked a poem form one poet, read it a few times and the poem healed me. I like the feeling of togetherness. Hugs. /Darlene/

Thank you Darlene, so sorry to hear about your loss, new to grief myself recently and it hasn't processed in the way I would have expected it too. What's lovely here is that we all share in the joy and the power of poetry even in our own grief, we can unite and have that empathy and feel together in what ever we are going through. I hope you are feeling ok and sending warmth your way xx

This is super sweet. I recall when I first came here 16 years ago and writing poems with similar sentiment. Not sure how long you have been here but you are a great part of this wonderful community.

Thanks Andrea, such a lovely thing to say. I joined back in 2021. I was looking for a way to get my poetry out there. In my search, I found poetry soup. Because of this community, I've discovered more poetry in me that I ever would have thought would be there. The prompts for contests and just reading what others have created helped me see that there didn't always have to be a reason to write. From the confines of get well wishes, thank you, thinking of you and happy anniversary, I learned that we could just write about mundane everyday things and raise them yo glory with our words. I first realised this when I read a poem on here called "ode to marmite" and it just gave me a whole new perspective on poetry and I recognised the fun in it. From there it grew and got better and better. Not looked back since. You're an amazing community and one of the best things in life was finding the soup :-D

Thanks Tania. Yes made some nice poet buddies on here. But the poetry has helped a great deal this past year or so. Words aren't enough to stress the difference it has made during a difficult period of time. Poetry and I will combine future forward and take on whatever comes. Being on here and sharing a mutual love of creative writing with so many spirited and loving people is amazing and has been a comfort. Warm wishes Tania. :-D

Thanks Douglas, I like to try to have a balance of feelings in the poems because we know life isn't always sunshine and daisies. But do try to end on a positive even if there's negative in it, as I hope to uplift or inspire or both :-D thanks for your thoughts on the balance, Im glad to hear that things are coming across in the poems :-D enjoy your writing and have a lovely day.
