THE BITTERSWEET OF ISRAEL
Angel stands guard ~ ready to save her child,
her guiding eyes so wise in soft dark room.
With psalms of life and love her song beguiled.*

Her feet would follow nigh, till the child’s tomb.
Behold, this son, with beating heart of gold!
Her guiding eyes so wise in soft dark room.

Is this the one foretold, the king of old?
Angel, this cherub, with six wings, throws kiss.
Behold, this son, with beating heart of gold!
~
This child will hurl all lies into abyss.
Her fingers softly touch the savior’s cheek -
Angel, this cherub, with six wings, throws kiss.
~
This Mary’s son will give strength to the weak.
(The guards of Israel ~ their babes ~ they cry!)**
Her fingers softly touch the savior’s cheek .
~
(And Herod seeks all babes – the weak, to die)
Angel stands guard ~ ready to save her child.
