The Bitter Seed

I fear for you,
much as I fear for me
or for others like me
who may be here
for longer than I’d like to be.
But more than that,
I fear for you
nearly as much as I fear you.
The world so big
and overpowering and cruel,
and you so small
and young and exposed.
We’ve ruined you, I think,
and all that we’ll leave you
is just as badly ruined.
I fear for me
as I fear for those like me,
and I fear for you,
but more than that,
how sickeningly I fear you.

Sharp is the sword that points to fear and yet its one of the most humanistic emotions on earth. Its our innocents that we must protect , against fear and wayward energy. Your writes are riveting. Have a great day Lawrence..

We are to leave the world a better place than we found it. Sadly we are not doing that as its caretakers. As poets we are especially driven to want to do that but question is, are we doing that? Your deeply woven poem certainly questions what we may leave behind my friend.. A fav..

So true!!! It's frightening when you fear yourself. Humans have made moments this way. Fearful, scary and tragic. Deep and powerful are your words. ~ Brandy

Thanks, Brandy, very pleased if you got something from it. Every generation leaves the next one more angry and more destructive, I guess.

The essence of your poem I found in these lines. Lawrence: But more than that, I fear for you nearly as much as I fear you. A deeper message I read in your poem..one about the effects of sowing bad and evil. Cleverly communicated.
