The Bitter Fruits of Love

Like a seed sown into
the bosom of the earth,
I took you into my heart
and let you take roots.

I showered you with my love
and nurtured you with my dreams
hoping someday a sturdy tree to flourish
bearing sweet fruits of love
and casting around me
a cool and soothing shade
in my trying days of high noon.

But like a fledgling,
having learned to fly,
You abandoned the love nest
disappearing from my life
like a track of foot-prints
on the ever-shifting
sands of the desert!

Very soft and tender...The sad twist in the end tears at the heart. Good luck in the contest.
