The Benefits of Retirement In Winter

I am happy to be a retiree in Winter,
It couldn't have worked out better,
With no need to feel bitter,
When it starts to get colder.

I can go to bed before the heat goes out of the Sun
And not get up till the heat comes back again,
So I can feel as right as rain.

I can drive at times when road rage,
Is off the page,
And traffic flows at this stage,
So I can get home before I age.

I can stay on the phone and complete a transaction,
To my satisfaction,
And negate any company inaction.

My shopping is done when the fast lane is open,
Staff give me lots of attention,
And car parks not usually taken.

I can enjoy a cup of tea when not on the run,
While sitting in the sun,
And watching others not having fun.

I can plan my day,
With no boss having a say,
Or worrying about traffic delay.

I can have my breaks anytime,
And can even go overtime,
Without fear of a fine.

So why wouldn't I find winter,
A perfect partner,
For a short Encounter,
Before the temperature gets any colder.

Winter is the perfect time to feel guilt free,
In not rushing out of bed for a fee,
Until I feel like a cup tea,
With a newspaper or a book on my knee.

I have never been busier since I retired. I am doing many of the things I never had time to do when working. I enjoyed your sense of leisure in this wonderful poem David. : )

Thanks Connie. glad you liked it. I just wanted to express the positives of retirement and that it can be joyous not something to dread, though I realise I am one of the lucky ones. best regards David.

I get most of my work done during the winter months. Too many distractions when the weather is nice. Have a great day.

Thank you David. Nice not having to go out in rough weather now that I am sort of retired.
