The Beholder of the Dead

I close my eyes
And wait for the dread - the dread
To appear and disappear
Into the wide open spaces of heaven.

I sleep wide awake
And my thoughts do wander
Across lands so deep - too deep
Where shards of light would go no further.

Those spirits hover close
They would not let me be
Peace is but a lifetime away
Such is my world - the world of the damned and the decayed

Nicely worded and hauntingly descriptive.
