Notes About The Poem

the beauty and the grace

a young lass brought a caterpillar home with
       her one day
she watched it spin its chrysalis - a slow and
       sweet ballet
when hatched - a butterfly, she wept to see it
       wing away
for it had bloomed before her - such beauty
       and such grace

a husband heard his dear wife shriek,
       attending her alarm
so feeling he had broken vows to keep her safe
       from harm
until the nurse had placed their newborn baby
       in his arms
and there it was before him - such beauty and
       such grace

a girl recalling her first love - the day they said
       goodbye
and all the incidental times her heart had
       wondered why
until her dearest next to her had winked her
       with his eye
and there it was beside her - such beauty and
       such grace

a laughing lad was running toward the sea and
       down a hill
when there upon the sand a songbird lay, so
       cold and still
nearby its mate was singing and he ached to
       hear the trill
for there it was before him - such beauty and
       such grace

a dad who lost his daughter and had just laid
       her to rest
so struggled ‘bout the organs she had willed at
       her bequest
until he heard her beating heart … in someone
       else's chest
and there it was before him - such beauty and
       such grace

I watched the moon soft-dance upon a pool of
       ruddy red
no stars for sake of its bright face upon that
       where I bled
how odd that I should care when in a moment
       I'd be dead
but there it was before me - such beauty and
       such grace …

if life had been THAT moment, well, I would
       have lived it, full ...
for there it was before me -
the beauty and …
the Grace.

Dear Greg, I’ve always been one of your loudest cheerleaders. Jean is correct about something going on in poetry soup… more than one thing and comments like the one you refer to as given with a presumptive air is one example. Audacity is the word that comes to my mind. Pity some cannot refrain from acting like a site cop when they stir the pot.

Thank you so kindly, Lin, I appreciate the support - I must say I completely agree. Other words came to mind too but I’m trying to be … restrained. I mean, to use a kind comment on another person’s poem to deliver some personal gripe or agenda is beyond presumptuous … wow.

Why are there no comments? What is going on on Poetrysoup soup these days? Your poems deserve the highest praise from those more qualified to give it. I love this especially from your most recent.

Interesting statement by “Tom”, as I just returned after an absence but joined PS in late 2016 and have given out literally thousands of comments and replies of encouragement - is he a Poetry Soup cop or something?!? Did I miss something while I was away?!? Wow - the presumptive air to say something like that as a reply to kindness on another’s poem is … I’ll refrain from the word, but it’s rather diva-like, to say the least. Talk about irony.
