The Ant and His Way

I once sat and observed the movements of an ant as he moved across my bathroom floor. He was headed in one direction, and for no apparent reason, he decided to change course. When he changed directions, I decided to block his pathway, thinking that he would continue his original course. Well, I was mistaken. Even when I tempted him with a candy mint, he wanted none of it, but insisted on ‘going his own way’. So I withdrew, allowing him to proceed as I returned to reading my book. Several minutes passed, and I was reminded to seek the whereabouts of my friend the ant. Little did I realize that my search would end so soon. I looked around the floor and then took a look under the cabinet sink. It was there that I found the ant, but not in the manner that I suspected. In that precise moment, he was being reeled into the Web of a spider. It was a scene that I had never before witnessed. To some extent, it was thrilling for me to have a front row seat, beholding the wild kingdom at work in the bathroom of my home. At the same time, it was also sad to witness the death of the ant, who insisted on going “His Own Way”. 05122015;03272018PS
