Notes About The Poem
This was experienced by a dozen or so local church leaders and young men during a prayer on the porch of a condemned house of Ill repute that was built during the gold rush days of 1849, that had been converted for use by those denominations as an emergency homeless shelter, in a prayer that followed a meeting concerning the leadership and fate of that shelter for homeless persons passing through Placerville, CA.
That Night
So many years ago...
Yet I remember well.
The night we all prayed... God let us know...
Then on each His Spirit fell.
The certainty that He loves me...
The presence of His love.
The Holy Spirit He set free...
In power from above.
In a dozen men that night who prayed...
In a circle holding hands.
Each of us confused... dismayed...
Ever since then understands.
The power of the Poly Spirit...
When God fills the hearts of men.
Ever since when we are near it...
We thirst to be filled again!
Overwhelmed with love and power...
That beyond description overflowed.
A glimpse of God within that hour...
That night His Spirit showed!
Ever since I've longed to be...
Filled with Jesus like that night.
The night of His Spirit filling me...
Just a glimpse of divine light.
Never can I say since then...
That I have not felt His touch.
I thirst since then to be filled again.
Nothing else is desired so much!
Once He's filled to overflowing...
A man's heart... it changes him.
I go through life since then knowing...
I need filled up again!
There's nothing Earthly can compare...
Nothing comes even near.
Inside a man when God goes there...
There is no room for fear!
I Imagine life eternally...
With God with me like then!
That is what heaven must be...
So I now live to go back again!
Thank you Jesus for that night You filled...
A dozen men to overflowing.
Each of us now live thrilled...
To know that's where we're going.
To those who have not known such love...
That you now need nothing more.
You can be filled with the Spirit of...
This Jesus we so adore!
