That Magic Scent of Lilacs
Day after day I’d be walking on autopilot back to my abode
Till there it was that stop-you-in-your-tracks odorous bouquet
How lovely those long awaited lilacs would magically explode
Brazenly caressing my tender nostrils every month of May
All so very eager for that first sign summer’s on its way
A forerunner reminder that school would soon be out
Lilacs announced freedom intrepidly to the wind
Of that there would be never the least infinitesimal doubt
After a year of being studious, not much left to rescind
Suddenly daydreams of summer were allowed and we just grinned
