That Evening Star
That evening star shining bright above,
Never wavering, my compass guide,
Assisting me through a darkening night
When I wavered in my journey north
Seeking a special place in life’s schema
After my affairs were in order, blessed,
I was to make my way home repairing,
Restoring what once was, I had missed
While beggaring about aimless and lost,
That evening star was always shining
Even when I could not see its glimmer,
Most likely, not wanting its direction
Floundering as I was, far from serenity,
Seldom aware that I was missing, adrift
In a careless and cruel world caring not
Until near bottom I looked up and saw
The future I could call my own, if only I,
If only I, could begin again with you …
That evening star shining bright above
Never wavering, never giving up on me.
