That Door

We exchanged words
Harsh words over nothing, nothing at all
Harsh words over something long forgotten
Harsh words which are critical
so critical now to recall and to relive
over and over again…

You were ready to drop the matter
You were ready to relent and apologize
I was not ready to drop the matter
I was not ready to relent and apologize

You were the adult, I was the child
I reversed the roles, you reversed them back
You offered your hand, I refused your hand
I refused and let you walk out that door

Yes, I let you walk out that door
That front door, that door to forever

the last time I didn't talk to you
the last time I didn't say I love you
the last time I saw you
the last time I saw you alive…

There is so much regret.......so much heartache and human error admitted......a very moving piece. And your title is a knock-out !!! Should have placed higher on that, alone!!

A difficult piece to write but a great deal for those that still have the chance to forgive those who wrong us and as well to forgive ourself. Congratulations on your fine win. Warm Smiles, Connie

Oh, please say it isn't true. My heart aches for you. This is such an important poem, we all can learn so much from this story. I so hope this is a poetic excercise my friend. If not be consoled the one you love knows that they are loved. This transcends the contest.

Many of us can use this poem to remind ourselves what is truly important. Must we always be "right" or can we afford to lose ourselves and those we love for "what??".......... our own pride???

TIM? Oh....this is so sad.....WOW! How you captured those feelings so powerfully...Life doesn't give us second chances....make the most of every moment. A lesson we all know, but.....we all make mistakes...Welcome to the human race. Hugs

I am sorry, Tim, my heart bleeds for you. My arms reach for you... I hate this, the feeling I got from reading your poem.. now you see why I did not take the invite... how could you.. I'm sorry, I am only mad at myself, for allowing tears to take over.. my own personal losses. your tears have awoken my heart, and the pain I feel is for my biological mother, who left this world, while I was angry at her. Tim, :-( xox~ LINDA

Tim, this is so heart breaking. We all done this at some point in our lives, never getting the chance to make it right is terrible. My sister wasn't talking to our dad when he passed, her pain was great. Touching write. Hugs

I know it is just a poem, a powerful one at that but it must have come from an observation. I can't imagine you being the one you write about; you are always so special in what you say and that tells me who you are! This was a difficult one to read Tim. Love, Lizzie

Phew...quite an emotive write.. well written piece on our human nature-- always hard to be humble and forgive.. easier to defend. Good luck for the competition..
