That Aging Thing
Seems that we all succumb to that aging thing
Wrinkles galore and what else it may bring
Memories fade in a mind that grows weary
Eyes difficult to focus as vision grows bleary
Aching knees and a pain here and there
Spending more time in one’s favorite old chair
The days come and go as time marches on
And we think to ourselves "where have all the years gone"
Seems like only yesterday that life had just begun
And we arose each day thinking "there is much to be done"
We experience success and failure and try to roll with the flow
And the challenges of life keep coming so we try to soften the blow
We search for meaning in the midst of chaos as life quickens its pace
And then we wake one morning and notice the lines in our face
Yes, that aging thing has arrived and caught us by surprise
And we realize that where life is concerned there is little compromise
So with not many options at hand we accept our fate with a wry smile
And proclaim with indignation "I'm ready for that last mile"
Then we shrug our shoulders and sigh and turn to face that old aging thing
And say to ourselves "so be it, I'm ready for whatever tomorrow may bring"
