I remember… Waking up with an eagerness That can only be felt, never described By mere nouns, verbs or adjectives – This was a feeling more precious than gold, More electrifying than that string of lights Placed so perfectly on tender pines At Christmastime when all is flawlessly Adorned, decked out with joy and faith, All the inspirations roused by Jesus’ birth I remember… Collecting moments in my heart, Beautiful memories and I’d never part With the gentleness of a cow who promised To pour out milk for the cat and the stomach Impatient for her delicious way of gifting Me with a sweetness, tastiness From the farm who knew that I would forever Be indebted to her memoirs, her gift to me – Enough to silence the very thought of darkness I remember… Thundering songs, rock n’ roll – never noise pollution, While I skimmed the surface of a glassy floor Created to ride the blades, roller skates – Inviting my spirit, my mind and heart, to hear The mind-boggling joy in sharing this sport With so many friends, those who I loved and would Forever remember in my thoughts as reflecting Tenderness that will always soothe away Any grief I might have had, comforting my recollections With laughter that soars like the wheels of skates, Embracing a lustrous floor, waxed and sparkling Like the starry skies when we would exit the door I remember… Embracing friends with assurance That this was the best of times, the best dream Faded into the moments when my life Was more like a fairytale being spoken by thoughts, Sincerity and grace, music that was like hope Poured out over the feelings – trembling with light, Focused on the heart who believes – in that quiet faith, Believing, yes – always believing, even though I was far from sinless, always believing… I remember… Getting saved and, someday, I would share my faith With everyone who cared to listen to my thoughts, My praise, my prayers, my memories – all the poems Attempting to spread the gospel, the very faith That had saved me from a place I will never have to know As home to my soul… because of His grace, I am saved forevermore, always, eternally I am… Saved to the utmost, by a love that knows the way Through every doubt, every regret, every shame – A love that gives me peace beyond words, tranquility Like only God could have stirred with His Holy Spirit, The One who sings through my being, shines through My gentle, and reassures me with His wisdoms I remember… And, I believe – He is mine and I am His Thankfully, I am saved by the King of Kings, The One who brings my soul through every storm, The One who abides with me through every nightfall, The One who sings light into my heart and soul, The One who I will love forevermore! I remember… Clinging to Him, the One who touched my heart With His gift of deliverance – His salvation Is the joy of my heart and soul, the reason That I will always know love that goes above and beyond, Love that is alive and assures me there is more… Than this life on earth – there is life after death, Life that lasts forever, life with the One who rose again, To fill believers with peace within – peace in knowing… Through His love, we are going to live in heaven with Him, The One who knew no sin, the One who intercedes For those who believe in Him, the Son – the Love, the Forever in heaven, where we’ll all live together… Praising God forever – Yes, praising God forever! I remember… and I’m thankful beyond words I am thankful in ways that will never be heard I am thankful, so very thankful for God above!
