Thank You For My Mug of Coffee
Thank You for this hot and black liquid
Steaming from my crockery mug;
And the Love that warms my hands;
Thank You for the brown skin men and women
Of the sun, singing with other tongues;
Who plant dark seeds and anxiously wait for rain,
And slash the green stalks and peal the beans.
I hear the splashing of sea’s waters by ships.
And sailors manning ropes.
I hear plopping of sacks onto wooden docks;
Then truckers singing country songs along the highway.
In all kinds of weather.
Thank You for designers and packers of
“Paper or Plastic” or cans, and the man
Who determined the cost.
Thank You for this hot mug of coffee,
That is warming up my hands.
