Territory of Absolution

To think of death before she died, to go where we can not yet go but still we must. To be 3,000 miles away when she gave up the ghost and surrendered, eyes closed forever, with nary a sound. Wanting to have said "goodbye mum" when she was still here to hear it, and before the light was gone for her, but not yet for me. ******* Inspired by the poetry of Ada Limon, and with thoughts on my own mother's death.

Beautiful write, Keith. My dad passed away when I was away at school, and it was a shock to me. It seems that the closure you wanted was always just out of reach, until you remember the good times with them. They too, wanted to say goodbye, but perhaps they only await to say "hello" again!
