Tempting Love

Tempting Love
     By Dane Smith-Johnsen

Hand in hand, we walked beside the winding trail.
We laughed and loved along this path by and by.
And felt extraordinary; two hearts entwined.
The faintest scent of lavender embraced us.
Distantly, gardenias decorated, white.
A quiet interlude impassioned delight.
And our thoughts within the wind lightly soared.
As in times before, we knew love’s quiet peace.
The day thus started vanquished every sadness.
Here, on this very lane, so often traversed,
Our wildest dreams of joyfulness found birth.
And you, as every part of me, prayed to kiss.
There, beside the wall, beneath the eyes of God.
Restraint unveiled; sweet promises hence covered.
Destined to impasse passion until betrothed,
Love’s temperance, the foundation of honor,
Defied assorted pangs of fleshly yearnings.
To taste your lips and electrify your soul,
With such emotion that only true love knows-
Feel deep tenderness against your thirsty heart.
From temptation thus entangled we must part.
Before shame singes two souls with grave sorrow.
We must pledge our love to keep tomorrow.
And vow to enter marriage pure, undefiled.
Let us live to save this passion once again.
And fill our souls, memories until then.
