Tannery In a Bottle
A sad Reg Baker was kissed farewell by his wife and family,
before he boarded the evening train that traveled through his country.
He was as nervous as he'd ever been, because for old Reg you see,
had never traveled upon a train, and never been down to the city.
Unfortunately Reg's brother died and Reg vowed some time ago,
when he had succumbed to his illness, to his funeral he would go.
Bob lived out in the Western Suburbs; close to the city limit sign.
Reg would take a train to the city, and then ride a suburban line.
Reg sat opposite a well-dressed lady who had few words to say,
‘though she did mention this to Reg, ‘she rides on this train each day’.
What she failed to mention to Reg is, the train ran horizontally,
beside an old brick walled building that, was the Newmarket tannery.
Being accustomed to this daily journey, each pitfall this lady knows,
so she unscrewed a perfume bottle, and placed it beneath her nose.
She knew the train was getting closer, to pass the reeking tannery.
Reg began to take the odour in which made his eyes go watery.
He glared at the lady with the bottle, that she had held in place.
And after she unscrewed the cap; Reg deemed her a damn disgrace.
The stench is so overwhelming; Reg struggled for his breath,
so he shouted, “Screw that cap back on, or the stink will cause my death!”
