Talking To a Wall
TALKING TO A WALL
By Leonard Kleeman
Did you ever feel like talking to
a wall?
It isn't hard to do if there's no one
there at all.
You are all alone and no one
is there
But you want to talk; for someone
to hear.
You have things to say but
to your dismay,
Everyone is gone, maybe just
for the day.
Thinking and talking are not
the same thing.
So you must talk out loud or
maybe just sing.
You want to be heard so you make
your voice loud.
You stand up and shout and that makes
you feel proud.
Maybe someone near has heard
you announce
whatever you wanted to say
or pronounce.
But no one can answer and your voice
just rebounds
off the walls all around you and
nothing expounds.
So your thoughts are just lost and your
shoulders you shrug.
No one will listen except maybe
bugs in the rug.
And that's the way life is when we have
something to say.
People just don't listen; they want things
their way
No matter who's right and no matter
who's wrong.
They just don't care even if it's just a song.
Some people may listen but not really care.
What you have to say just floats in the air.
They don't want to think of important things.
They'd rather watch ballgames or fights in
the rings.
These are the people who just know they are right.
They don't know how to listen but know
how to gripe.
They are not the ones whom you'd ever call.
For talking to them is like talking to the wall.
If you have something to say that people
should know
You must find the right people who want to
think so.
They are the ones who are eager to learn
and are interested and show some concern.
That's why it's important to have a loved one near
who will listen very closely and really will hear.
We need one another to prevent any fall
and to never again have to talk to a wall.
