Talkative

You talk a lot
and I do mean a lot
endlessly, really
but you know I don't mind

Because I love to hear your voice
even if I don't always
decipher the exact words
Your voice washes over me
like sunlight
and I just soak it all in

I don't really need to speak
or respond
whenever you take a breath
I just chip in with a yeah
or a mm hmm
just so you know
I'm still listening

I watch you talk
your aquamarine eyes shining
and you're completely animated about this topic
if it's science or the funny pages, I'm not sure,
and I can see the sunlight glint off your hair,
the gleam a coppery color

And I just sit back
relax
and let you talk
trying to listen
because I know when I try
my voice catches
and my words get stuck in my throat
because I can't really speak around you

You make me nervous sometimes
and I'm sure that you know that
but I love you anyway
