Tales From a Train

I met a lonely man, While riding on the train. He spoke of many things, From happiness to pain. He shared his views on life, And people that he met. But when he brought up love, His words I can't forget. At first he spoke so soft, That I could barely hear. Then turned his head away, And shed a single tear. The woman of his dreams, He found so long ago. He knew deep in his heart, Would never let her go. It was later that year, They decided to wed. She looked just like a queen, And wore a gown of red. They bought a little house, And raised a single child. A lovely baby girl, Was only then he smiled. I saw his face turn pale, As it faded away. He then lowered his head, And the last words he'd say. It was the month of June, He had gotten the news. Wife and daughter was shot, With no one to accuse. It was a mystery, That would never be solved. No witnesses that saw, About who was involved. As he finished his tale, And got off at his stop. Now left there all alone, My tears began to drop. I couldn't help thinking, While I was homeward bound. How sad my life would be, With nobody around. And still up to this day, I reflect on his scars. As I hug my children, I thank my lucky stars.
