Takes The Edge Off
If you don’t work, you don’t eat,
oh, God set things this way,
live off sacrifice of time
just to get through the day.
But the best things you cannot buy,
seems a Catch Twenty-two,
and when you’re left without them,
oh, what are you to do?
My girl left me last week,
she wanted something more,
money brought me a new one,
at least ’till she gets bored!
Money can’t buy everything,
but it can take the edge off,
not the most important thing,
but it does take the edge off.
I want mor ofe that green thing
so I can take the edge off,
money can’t buy everything,
but it sure takes the edge off.
Some say that’s it’s evil’s cause,
but I think that’s shallow,
’cause if we didn’t have it
we’d all resort to blows.
It’s not like holding your son,
or laying with your wife,
but without it you won’t have
either one in your life!
I crashed my favorite car
that I worked on for years,
money brought me another on,
I’m not stranded here!
Money can’t buy everything,
but it can take the edge off,
not the most important thing,
but it does take the edge off.
I want more of that green thing
so I can take the edge off,
money can’t buy everything,
but it sure takes the edge off.
Some try to ‘rise above’ it,
but it’s a stubborn fact,
you’ll be facing misery
if you don’t make some cash.
I put on a new song,
the critics hated it,
money bought me some whiskey
so I could just forget!
Money can’t buy everything,
but it can take the edge off,
not the most important thing,
but it does take the edge off.
I want more of that green thing
so I can take the edge off,
money can’t buy everything,
but it sure takes the edge off.
