Take My Eyes
TAKE MY EYES
Take my eyes and burn them,
I have no use for them anymore;
they cannot see beauty in the
flowers and trees, they witness
only sadness and grief, none
of the good things in this life.
Take my heart and bury it
like a rotting corpse for it, too,
serves no purpose on this
desolate planet; it is dry
and does not beat with the
fervour of love as it once did.
Take my body and throw it away,
it is empty of meaning and the
flesh is sagging like a willow.
There is no destination it seeks,
no sacred ground on which to sleep
and no nourishment to sustain it.
Take my mind and empty it,
for my thoughts no longer serve
as a distraction, they only mock
me with sarcasm and disdain;
they feed my heart with unrealized
expectations and desires.
Take my soul and set it free
from the cumbersome vessel
it inhabits on this earthly plane.
Let it fly into the hereafter
to shine again in open skies
for it has a destiny all its own.
