TAKE A PAGE FROM THE AGE OF THE AGED
She comes here very often, I suppose because it’s more than worth her while
The gray haired lady who cares for someone who’s hair is even grayer
When the elder’s target focuses in on the younger gray I see a mile wide smile
And oft I hear the sound of a church choir, a hymn, and a silent yet fervent prayer
They sit and talk, I suppose about yesterday before the gray
Sitting with all the evidence of contentedness on their face
I know not what they speak about and need not know what they say
Whoever Ms. Younger is visiting, that person knows the younger’s grace
With fluidity they pass the time reminiscing about daisy days gone by
Days that flowed through time and space to create what they both have now
And although I know not what they say somehow it makes me cry
It just seems as if there’s a secret to living in peace and only they know how
The younger walks with ease and an oily type of glide
All to come and visit a person with ample style like her
As the younger aids the elder to sit and talk easily at her side
While I sit here praying selfishly that I could smile like her
