with silly words
Symbols of trauma
Blood soaked bayonet
Tear stained tissues
Hearts impaled with arrows
of hurt and disappointment
Symbols of death
Gravestones long neglected
Memorial words
Unread in years
Symbols of knowledge
Words in books
Sounds of dialogue
Heard or unheard
Symbols of creation
Musical strains heard
Pyramids of stone built
Thoughts unique in the universe
Symbols- icons of ideas
Symbols of things
Forever gone
Or never were
And never will be
Etched in stone...
These symbols of
misty reality
So questionable
So fleeting
Stones ground to sand
And sand to dust
To blow away
On the winds of change
Symbols of change
The only unchanging thing
Like aged photographs
Buried in an unopened drawer
To ultimately decompose
As all symbols do."
