Sweetness Two Hours At a Time
Seven a.m. in the morning
Came in steps of two hours--
Up and down all through this short night,
And, now, I seem to lack power;
I return to the Proverbs words
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid.
When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”*
With this hope for sleep I prayed
“Dear LORD, thank you for assurances
That You are with me as I struggle
Silently within in loneliness--
This is the elders’ lack of snuggle,
So, I thank you for Your Words
For each period, comma and dash
I thank you for the coziness found
In times when my thoughts are rash;
I give you this day, wash me anew
Wash me that I may be whiter than snow,
Thank you for renewed zeal and strength
Two hours at a time as I go.”
*Proverbs 3:24
