Sweet Surrender

Addiction began as recreational adventure
Meandered into misdemeanor or slow suicide
Incorrectly blamed substance as offender
Neither love nor deep down agony contender
Sickness of mind, body and soul collide

Many experience a moment of clarification
Or honest evaluation enough to recover on
Relapse a symptom not a failure situation 
Willingness is a key recovery indication
Sweet surrender - paradoxical phenomenon

It is a shame what we sometimes have to put ourselves through before we discover how strong and exceptional we are. Sadly, some of us never learn.
