Survivor Guilt

She slides into my dream Unravaged by age. I plead down on my knees, Scream at her in rage. She silently smiles And very soon I know She’ll fade from my dream And so very quickly go. I’ll scream myself awake, Scream awake my sleeping wife, Not knowing how to explain That visit from my earlier life. Survivor Guilt.

I don't know what your poem refers to but I can imagine what could result in this scenario. Unresolved because nothing can ever be talked through. Survivor yes, guilty probably not. But it would be wrong of me to take guesses around such personal content. Very evocative poem.

Thanks Dilly. I was carer for my late wife of 42 years. I had to have counselling after her death, and at times, still have these nightmares.
