SURVIVOR

They beat me; spat on me shoved me in
a corner kicked dirt over me due to my
gentleness I stood up shook off their cruelty.

Their brutality, didn’t extinguish my light
I pressed on with my life, worked so very
hard serving only one God who loves me.

Their viciousness didn’t stop me in my
tracks only delayed me, I continued on
learning and working for my betterment.

Their heartlessness caused me deep physical
and mental harm by the beatings and verbal
degradation but that still didn’t deter me.

With their mercilessness they still couldn’t
stop my determination, I am far away from
them now, I forged ahead with resolve.

All of those who sought to destroy me I will
never be voiceless again and confirm the evil
ones failed miserably, as God has freed me.

With their ruthlessness I am not silenced
I speak out for the lowly ones in my poetry
and I am a humble and grateful in print poet.

They couldn’t extinguish me or my success
that I now share with the world through
my poems and I am no longer unspoken.

With their ignorance they cannot measure
my life in anyway whatsoever and cannot
deny my strong determination and courage.

As of today, I reign in God’s mercy as He has
pulled me from the raging waters deeming
that I am worthy and have merit in His eyes.
