Surviving Innocence

There is a stain
unscathed by time
where elders' hands
were left behind
with scars of gropes
and breach of trust
upon dear Innocence
guilt was thrust

The pattern was set
The victim was made

But wisdom grew
with love and age
New Innocence
climbed arduously out
from underneath the shade
by reclaiming the self
the essence he stole
the nightmares she finally stayed
long at last
to awaken whole
Innocence smiled
warmed by the light of this day.

;) Honoured dear Charlie! It amazes me how one can't really judge one's own work, some of what I've felt my weakest gets the strongest response. With words you can't use the painters' trick, using a mirror to see a canvas with fresh eyes. Thank you.

Wow, this is poignant, sad, and beautiful all at the same time! Well written, Maureen and a 7. :)

Thank you Eileen for your dear encouragement. I challenged myself to write this a few years ago because I hadn't yet tackled the topic; I fear it's a 'lil overworked and thus more narrative than my usual. My visual arts have played a more cathartic role. I'm just getting back in to writing, having found the soup (a lover of anthologies, yummy soup it is!) xomo
