Surreal Nature

I sat beneath an oak tree, listening to the wind blowing through the branches. The storm was coming, I watched as the sky darkened. My previously sunny day transformed, the sun being blocked by the clouds. The shadows stretching across the horizon reaching across the water in my direction. Waves rising and crashing along the shore. Then all went silent, a calm translucent light filling the air. Yet there was no calmness within me, no peace just a feeling of dread. Thunder cracked breaking the silence, shaking the ground beneath me.

Bright light
devoid of warmth
flashing across sky
squirrel runs along branch

Rain is released, a waterfall from the sky. It bounces upward off the ground. Sheets of water form, joining and extending the lakes reach. The sound is deafening, pounding filling my ears. I witness yet I am not touched. Protected, dry, comforted.

Canopy of leaves
dry ground covered with moss
a single drop falls
