Sunset
In northern climes such as mine, setting
Summer sunlight lingers, reluctant to
Kiss the horizon adieu. Instead he
Preens proudly, peacock-like, casting aloft
Feathery rays, changling* colors, plumage
Variant in sequence: yellow, orange,
Fire-red, blood-vermillion, green flash!
Color collisions, re-imaging joy.
In such a perfect day where the packing
Of one more ounce of meaningful mem’ry
Seems well nigh impossible, Apollo’s
Chariot careen’d ‘cross my sky, setting
Imagination, e’en overnight dreams
Afire. I sit hush’d before the Sublime.
