Sun-Downer Blues
Listen to poem:
The sun she's goin' down, it's sinkin' so low,
I can feel that evening breeze start to blow.
Time for day's bright colors to wane and fade,
Bending all hues to black and blue in shade.
Sundown, oh sundown, it's bittersweet time,
Sundown, oh sundown, it's bittersweet time,
Day's done and dusted, bring on night's sweet chime.
The shadows grow long, as night's bend takes hold,
Bend them notes, to make boogie blues unfold.
'Dem straight-jacket days will all melt away,
To the rhythmic beat of the blues I play.
Sundown, oh sundown, it's bittersweet time,
Sundown, oh sundown, it's bittersweet time,
Day's done and dusted, bring on night's sweet chime.
I'll play 'dem blues, till dawn breaks into day.
Driving the blues back underground away.
Hoping somehow, the pain has gone in song.
Sundown, oh, sundown, help me carry on.
Sundown, oh, sundown, shine your light on me?
Sundown, oh, sundown, set my troubles free.
With my bittersweet dark-blue melody.
