Summersend (Combined Haiku and Tanka)

summersend
population - 90 days
blink your eyes and you're through it

         Leaves

something in the wind
that whispered play of old green
then this sudden chill
with arms about my shoulders
sadly thinking summersend

how they toss about
then calm as thoughtful children
clinging clinging summersend

Another sweet write, Daver. The children do, indeed, cling to "summersend". I wrote a poem long ago called, "Summer's End". It's way back in my first postings if you'd like to take a look. Hugs, Donna

Nice work, Daver...you have described the mood of the waning season. Regarding "What Offense", thanks for your comments. I work in education, too, and have encountered children who live the unthinkable every day. Heartbreaking. I am so blessed to be able to love these kids and show them that they have value. Blessings to you today! Donna kajr

What a brilliant compilation of the tanka and haiku forms, Daver. All children dread the coming of fall and the end of their extended period of play at "summersend." Excellent write, dear friend! Love, Carolyn (Leaving for Jersey in 45 minutes, but had to see if anything new had been posted by my favorite poets.) Love you, Carolyn

Daver, fall truly is in the air. Seems really really early this year. Or perhaps it is teasing us. Awesome writing my friend. Love, Carol
