Summers Gone By

Winter days have left us feeling so cheerful,

looking forward to those summer nights

just sitting outside smelling sweet summer air

so fresh, is delightful as can be.

Watching bright stars far away in the dark sky,

taking me back to days of my youth and

summer days of long ago,

when friends and I would tell

ghost stories until way past bedtime,

each night of the week, brought new

memories to store in our hearts to carry

with us to adulthood, wishing for those

days to return again, but knowing their

gone just like the falling stars we use

to see long ago.

We used to lay on the baseball field by our park and stare at the stars, listen to our transistor radio or just ride our bikes with a flash light tied to the handle bars. Vince

Thank you for your kind comments, James. Be sure to let me know when you post new work. I so enjoy reading your poetry. Got my MRI results and am headed for physical therapy -- five disks are either protruding, bulging or have bone spurs. Hope PT does the trick. Insurance runs out in August. Love, Carolyn

Like your nostalgic use of "falling stars." I remember sitting out in the back yard with my dad looking up at the stars. Thanks for the memory, Jim. LOve, daver

Indeed "they're gone just like the falling stars," James. We don't forget these special summer evenings. They remain etched in our hearts forever. Very nostalgic write. Still trying to fight back the tears after reading your Fathers Day poem. Bless you. Love, Carolyn
