Summer's End
The sun decends now, more hurriedly
With barely a ripple, the lake is calm
Precious time on the dock is limited
As night grows still, and darkness befalls
September's arrival is upon us
Cooler mornings and evenings too
Orchard apples near ripe for the picking
Sedums and chrysanthemums bright in bloom
Vibrant-leaved trees will soon abound
Hot spice drinks, and woolen sweaters, worn
Harvest fields lined with oranges, reds and golds
Falling temperatures soon be the norm
Fresh, crisp air begets morning frost
Foilage frees and lets go, its turn to descend
Becoming crunches and crackles underfoot
Alas, autumn follows the summer's end
