Summer Speeds By
Old brown leaves from last fall, spread down the wooded hillside
Soon to be covered with new colorful leaves this year
I passed a tree already turning a bright color of red
I suppose it won’t be long now, before the rest follow
The blanket of green fern are standing tall beneath the pines
The sun fleets in and out of the large passing clouds
Some gray ones lurk above, wanting to bring more rain
But, the ground is already wet, soaked from earlier times
That flattened leaves, and turned the colors in the trees
--- As summer speeds by ---
