Summer Shower

How fresh the shower a man takes at dawn
Daylight already so hot and intense
But switching to ‘Cool’ shall stifle a yawn
And shampoo lasts ages… on hair not dense

A towel that is dry so patiently waits
For wet human flesh which aims to be dry
Perchance the human has meetings or dates
Neither is true for that human is I

Show me a towel that can dry a wet man
When hot outdoor air sucks no vapour out
But how shall I dry: I doubt that I can
“Darling, please bring me one more towel,” I shout

Although clammy still, aftershave won’t hurt
Famous last words as I stick to my shirt

Terry alike you I’m suffering from the summer heat, spraying cologne on myself as never before. As you say, a shower freshens one up at dawn, for a few minutes and then start becoming too warm again. Enjoyed the read… Beryl

Terry - only you would write a poem about a summer shower that is literally about a shower and that is why I love reading your work! The second verse is especially delightful…

Thanks, Ilene. Glad you enjoyed. I suspect the sponsor wont be as complementary ;-)

Sonds like a long, hot summer, my friend. I'd look into a 'Teflon no-stick body makeover,' if I were you. lol. ~ gw

I certainly think a body maker wouldn't go amiss, I’ve got a few extra pounds that haven’t left me since Christmas. But a Teflon makeover… now there’s a thing ;-)

Nice Sonnet, Terry. Isn't it the true ... last line. Fun read, my friend. Write On! Bill

Trouble is, Bill… I rarely wear a shirt… normally it’s a T shirt… and that’s a nightmare! It’s like trying to squeeze into a ring donut ;-)

captivating, humorous, and unique take on the contest. I know what you mean with the humidity after a shower. Seems like I need a shower after the shower (ha). Best wishes with the contest. A sure winner, Sara

Thanks, Sara. To be honest, my funny seemed to go walkies a while back.., and I’ve missed it. I decided today that I would write nothing, or I’d write something at least tongue in cheek. I absolutely expect an NA… but hey, you can’t have too many NAs ;-)

As Sara said… it’s like needing a shower after you’ve showered… sheesh… roll on autumn ;-)
