Summer Night
The hummingbird moths are out tonight.
They flitter in between my thoughts
And cause my brain to hum.
Are they really bugs or just misplaced birds?
We as men think we can categorize and containerize everything.
There must be a logical reason
If it’s summer then it is the season for light
And the mayflies should visit our screen doors and lanterns
But do we truly know why life imitates itself
Or is it just an illusion meant to amuse and confuse our minds?
And then I see a lightning bug and everything is ruined.
For I had thought I had it all figured out.
