Summer Night

I am not sure when I stopped being delighted
by the sight of a lightning bug
                  lighting up a summer’s night

Or being excited at the sight
        of an ice cold popscicle
                  on a warm summer night

Or being motivated to run and play
         with neighbors in the twilight
                  of a delightful summer night

Life gets heavy for everyone at times,
so I think I need to think like a child
                 on a beautiful summer night
