Notes About The Poem

Summer Issues - A Footle Litany

Written: July 12, 2026, for a contest sponsored by Karen Jones Sun spits, Skin quits. Heat schemes, Ice screams. Bugs rise, Peace dies. Sweat wins, Shade thins. Air sags, Grass drags. Storm broods, Mood skews. Clouds glare, No air. Fans fail, Nerves frail. Nights burn, I churn. Days swell, No quell. Sky looms, Room blooms. Sun mocks, Time shocks.

I agree that time shocks. Summer slips by too quickly.

I can relate to so many of these as summers have never agreed with me and so much less since I am older. The body's temperature mechanics do not work so well when we get old. Thanks for sharing this contest entry with us and it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K.

"Nights burn, I churn". This has been the situation prevailing in our State almost two months back. We got roasted in summer heat. Excellent Footles.
