String Lights
How many lights will you string
welcoming the arrival of a newborn king?
Is one enough with multicolored hues
of green and red, yellow, white and blue?
If the glow is dull and dim
will you still be happy at the birth of him?
How many seasons have come and gone
and you bought presents, gifts and let it all be done?
What was the point, the meaning of the purpose
or was it just celebrations on the surface,
did you forget the lessons of old
the wonder and magic of the Christmas stories told?
Take a moment then,
as you string the lights again
to remember and recall
the truth of the seasonal call
to bless, to pray, to be grateful for this day
when Christmas love and hope come to stay,
then decorate the tree, set the star up on top
string the lights with joy and hope that never stops
and thank God for this momentary pause and restart
when the baby graced your very soul and heart.
Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year
to all.
