Street Souls

How did he, she, they, them come to be? Diminished, reduced, and innominate in society Relegated or maybe delegated to busy city streets and desolate byways Street souls somberly painting landscapes with a myriad of overlays Barely decent soles or none at all to cover these souls' feet Yet a daily trample on sordid sidewalks and weather-beaten streets Cold nights meet cold stares in daytime Oftentimes the human cord is disjointed and can be so unkind How did he, she, they, them come to be? No one knows but compassion and love should be the reality
