Streams of Consciousness

The imaginary musings of my mind,
experience past & present lingers long,
dusted off,re-opened,viewed from time to time,
retrospective perspective changes all;
Maturity's long-sightedness squints aghast,
then savours the mellowness of memory;
A tear,a smile washes nostalgia's face;
Today will be yesterday,gathering dust,
then filed,microfiched,all too soon forgotten
'til an event unlocks the museum again.

Brian, great poem with many wonderful lines, I too linger in memories both with tears and smiles probably too often, I often wonder why a dusting memory will flash in my mind suddenly. You have inspired me !

The muse ought to be active to unlock the mind

Always admired the stream of consciousness writing style James Joyce employed in Portrait of the Artist. The mind is a mystery to me. As you say, the museum gets unlocked from time to time and sometimes we don't even know why. Thought -provoking poem, Brian. Best wishes, Carolyn

The museum of the mind, full of dusty forgotten artefacts, I really like that imagery.
