Strawberry Fields Forever

Strawberry Fields Forever

I have used words and phrases from the Beatles song
‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ in order to create the
Desired effect in this poem.

How beautiful it must be,
Let me take you down,
Just you and me,
For no one else is
In my tree!
Misunderstanding is easy
If you live with eyes closed,
You see,
Nothing is then real,
Why become someone
Who is trying hard to feel,
It doesn’t matter
Much to me.
Why get upset if nothing is real,
Why get hung about it,
I know when it’s a dream,
Nothing is real,
For me does seem,
That it’s all wrong,
But I think…no ... yes,
My thoughts are strong,
As I think I disagree
I want to be free,
So I’m going to Strawberry Fields,
But as nothing is real,
I don’t want to yield,
And become a buffer zone,
A human shield!
Strawberry fields Forever was
Inspired by The Salvation Army
Children’s Home,
Where young ones were safe,
And protected and did not
Have to roam,
This song was recorded in
Nineteen sixty seven,
Fans thought Strawberry
Fields Forever, was just heaven!
If we look through the
Lens of LSD as did the Beatles,
Sure that John Lennon later,
Turned to needles,
This ‘avant tout’ group thought,
No-one was up their tree,
“Are we a group that is genius,
Or are we crazy or seamless?
We merely see differently to others,
To the world’s sisters and brothers.”
The Beatles were so cutting edge,
For their time,
Mass hysteria from young girls,
And some boys,
Parents and grandparents
Were wary of the influence
Of these young men,
With no poise,
Who made a lot of noise!
This Beatles song was considered
As one of the
Greatest pop songs,
Ever recorded
Throngs,
Of people ever present
When ever the Beatles were
So much as just mentioned!

Agreed Jen, The true genius is J.L the poet's imagination as Strawberry Fields in essence much like Penny Lane in reality is nothing more than a street and field and no real stand out or defining features Merely childhood places he lived by in his neighborhood growing up

That's really great Charles - I love the Beatles also, and we have a program every Sunday "Golden Oldies" where they play all our favourite songs. Thanks for a cool comment my friend, the Beatles made music history! Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

I enjoyed this poem, as music inspires me as well. I think anything is possible in a dream. "I’m going to Strawberry Fields" I like the thought of lingering in moments of beauty. Where nothing is as it seems, but then again- it really is so much more. Always in Dream. :) Brandy

Hi SO, Thank-you for a wonderful comment - I have always enjoyed the Beatles songs. I was always amazed at how 4 young men, from Liverpool and from poor beginnings, rose to world class status and stardom. I enjoy the songs on the CD Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band - very deep and high! Hugs and blessings. Jennifer.

Thank-you Bobby, as John says good music never dies, but as I replied, we do! I think everything they recorded got to the hit parade except for a few, they were icons and even got the MBE presented by the queen herself! Hugs and blessings Bobby, Jennifer.

The Beatles inspired a whole generation of us 'babyboomers" and even now, younger generations are discovering them and listening to their music. Great music never gets old. Thanks for the memories my dear friend. Hugs, John

This poem and the song itself bring back many memories, Jenny! 'Strawberry Fields' also goes hand in hand with 'Penny Lane'...a double A-side single which was released in the same month of my birthday, so easy to remember. ~ Warm regards & Hugs // paul

Know it was released in 1967 but not sure of the month must look it up so can wish you Happy Birthday. Beatles took over the world with fanatical frenzy - pity they broke away and the band collapsed as each one became solo Glad you enjoyed it my friend., Warm regards and hugs, Jennifer.

Thank-you Tom and once again thank-you for all the valuable advise and notes you sent me - we are just over the last two days beginning to settle down and quite enjoy our new little cottage, will look into them attentively when I've caught up with work and poetry. The telephone system is terribly slow here - we are still awaiting the transfer of our phone numbers to our present address, so using cell phones to do business with (5 of us) which is very costly. Great comment as always, Blessings, Jennifer.

Thank-you for a wonderful comment Jan - I do hope that we will communicate more often as I really miss your comments and I have been a little lax of late also. Moved from our home in which three generations had lived. We decided tp downsize and found a beautiful two bedroomed cottage, far cry from our 4 bedroomed house, but the cottage is cute. All in all, it was a very emotional time for both of us. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.
