Storm on the Horizon

I knew a storm was in the forecast,
but still, the thunder startled me,
the force of it shaking the house
It looks so dark, despite being only
late afternoon
The darkness matches my mood
and the loud messy storm fits in
with some of the chaos happening
in my life
The intense noise and flashes of lightening
are like the ups and downs of my
son's mental illness and substance use
Startling and oh so powerful.
Intense enough to take me down,
while I am trying my best to stay on my feet.
The power of the storm is bringing a calm to
my soul that is much needed.
Yes, storms happen in life and in nature,
but life does go on and the earth and it's
people shall heal.
