Storm of Trees
STORM OF TREES
trees
sidewind
smashing glass
ripping up roofs
like a doll house, bedroom contents exposed
miles of splintered lumber, stacked against odds
squirrels naked
scattered nuts
oak leaves
torn
dolls
stare, lids
unblinking
ceramic chips
like tears, raining upon the sodden ground
cleanup with a purple dinosaur song
shoulder shaking
mournful dirge
swollen
eyes
miles
away
a note’s read
smells like perfume
an old man embraces his broken wife
the smell of Christmas pine, foreign to this
season of death
yet one palm
comforts
him
