For Sotto Poet's Stoicism As Way Of Life Poetry Contest

__________________________________________________________________

“Strong and silent” well defines a stoic person. They try not to let things take them by surprise. Owning their fate, they endure without complaint. In fact, they don’t fear death, and tears seldom wet their eyes. Calm are they in chaos. Also, they live in the “now.” It’s their habit to listen more than speak, and they don’t just talk. They DO. Since possessions matter little, they focus on the higher good. Mere mortals they are not! Only in some ways am I stoic. How about you?

You're making me reflect. Quite the accomplishment. To answer your question....I might meet some of the characteristics every so often. Not as much as I might want to in a self-evaluation. They way you explain it, it's something to aspire to. You captured the essence of something pretty powerful. Your honest self-appraisal at the end was a breath of fresh air that I don't see very often. Pretty neat!!

I have not been very stoic today. Maybe tomorrow I will do better. Thanks for sharing this creative work with us and for dropping by my pages with congratulations. Sara K

OK. I'll answer that cleverly penned question, Andrea: When I had to live a spartan existence, I was a Stoic. Now that I don't count every penny, I'm no longer heroic. ~ Mr. B.S. (Big Spender)

Wonderful Acrostic Andrea :-) Sounds like my eldest son. As for me, like you, I am only stoic in some ways. Hugs Anne :-)

My biggest problem is I talk a lot and I hate pain, so I complain sometimes. I think in every way I am fairly stoic!

I'm definitely not "silent" LOL and chaos or drama stresses me. I guess the rest is close buy I do not practice it as a way of life. Thats just how my folks raised me. Very cool acrostic. This form works well with your expertise, for this contest:) Happy Thanksgiving sweetie!

yeah, like you, I am not too silent. I'd have made a bad Greek.

Ancient Greece practised stoicism. Difficult really. As you ended your poem. Hugs and blessings.

Aspects of "the pioneer spirit"; dissimilar to how a city might mold ones character. The Stoic would be unrecognizable on a New York City subway-platform at rush-hour.

I have been accused of being stoic. "Unflappable" even showed up in a personnel review and also in a reference letter. LOL love the acrostic style with rhyming lines. :)

I am often unflappable too, Linda.

I am seriously stoic until something ticks me off....and then....well...stow it stoic. A really nice job using the Acrostic for this

I enjoyed this well composed acrostic Andrea. As you left the last line open ended for pondering, enough said.

This is so very well written dear andrea, i love this acrostic, explains very well what stoicism is and how a person that follows it believes, often silent and strong , accepts all around and is grateful as well as ready for anything while practicing mindfulness, i do have some traits of it but not all, ah. I love how you’ve ended this with a question too: always a pleasure reading you

Excellent and informative, Acrostic poetry, Andrea. Is this a trick question? :-) I stoic to a point, haven't ever met a pure stoic ... so far. I enjoyed reading and thinking about this poem, my friend. Good thought-provoking poetry. Thanks for sharing from that fine mind of yours. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

maybe some old cowboy characters could be called the epitome of stoicism.
