Still the Same Melody
Adversity
Can be your life's greatest university
Hatred, betrayal, rejection
Job loss, divorce, illness, aloneness
Loneliness
Friction
Frustration
Yields so deep a sorrow
Only life renewed strong acceptance
Can sooth and smooth.
You are a project
You are always in the making
That is why
You must refuse to be defined
By other people
That is why
You must refuse to be defined
By your current life circumstances.
Cast out a lovely outlook
From the highest of the heights
Cast out the same lovely outlook
From the lowest of the lows
You still may see the same beauty
You still may hear the same melody.
There is meaning and mystery
In the voice of the voiceless
In the words of the unheard
In the desolate attitude of the needy
In the innocent smile of a baby
In the love of the lovely
In the wisdom of the wise.
